In the era of smart phones, Google maps, and GPS, it may seem like there’s nothing left to explore. Everything has already been mapped, catalogued, and written about on the Internet. Even our knowledge of space is astounding. But there’s still so much left to explore.
Most of our oceans are still undiscovered, there are scientific discoveries that are still to be found, and I myself am still searching for the world’s best mac and cheese recipe. But my favorite form of exploration is travel. It may seem that there is nothing left to discover or explore, but there’s still so much that you haven’t explored for yourself. Whether it’s trekking Mt. Kilimanjaro or exploring that nature trail you’ve lived next to for years and never quite made the time to walk, go explore. As Mark Twain said, “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.” You never know whom you may meet in your explorations, what challenges you may have to overcome, or what incredible things you may get to do along the way. Travel is an amazing way to discover new things, meet new people, and challenge your way of thinking. And if you can give someone an opportunity to travel and explore for themselves, that may be one of the greatest gifts you’ll ever give.
Keep exploring.
