Spicy Chicken!

Some like it hot, hot, hot… including this girl! If you’re a fan of fried chicken and fish, and all of the great Southern fixin’s that go along with the two, then you need to get to Nashville!

There are two well known hot chicken stops in Nashville: Prince’s Hot Chicken Shack and Bolton’s Spicy Chicken and Fish. I can’t speak for Prince’s since I didn’t get the chance to dine there, but Bolton’s is out of this world! The entire experience was great. From the food, to the quaint little shack it’s cooked and served in, to the lovely woman behind the counter taking orders who couldn’t have been any sweeter.

My co-worker Kristen and I were lucky enough to squeeze in a trip to Bolton’s on our recent visit to Nashville. We made a mad dash for the place on our last day there, knowing that if we had gone back home without trying some Nashville spicy chicken we would have regretted it forever… or at least until our next visit to Nashville. I ordered the leg quarter, which is a huge leg and thigh piece served with pickles, two sides and white bread. When the woman asked what temperature I wanted and I quickly responded hot, she said, “Have you ever had our chicken before?” I let her know this was my first visit to Bolton’s, grinning from ear to ear with excitement, and she advised me to stick with medium for my first try and work my way up. “If you like the medium and think you can handle hot next time, then go hot next time. And there will be a next time… you’ll be back.” She was right. Medium was the hottest thing I had ever eaten before, and it was amazing!

Kristen and I got our food to go and drove back to our hotel to collect the rest of our group for our ride to the airport, and were tortured by the amazing smell of spicy chicken in the car on our ride back. As soon as we loaded up, she and I took seats in the back, laid out our to go boxes, and chowed down on the best meal I have eaten in years. As we were sweating and fanning ourselves over the heat of the food, everyone else in the car thought we were crazy. Crazy for some spicy chicken! So the next time you are in Nashville, and if you love hot fried Southern food like I do, get to Bolton’s and get some spice in your life!
